I have always harbored the intention to document my thoughts, ideas, and life experiences. This endeavor is not merely motivated by the clichéd notion of giving back to the society from which I have gained immensely, but also to foster greater clarity within myself. Writing enhances one’s clarity of thought, thereby enriching both the writer and the reader. Moving forward, I aspire to engage in more of both writing and reading.
I applied and interviewed with a global company that supports Ubuntu worldwide (Name withheld for confidential reasons but techies would have an idea). This was for the role of Senior Linux Support Engineer (EMEA). I will describe this written interview experience as the most exacting in my tech journey, requiring depth and painstaking time. This is why I have decided to share my verbatim answers to five out of the twelve technical questions. I passed this stage of the interview and proceeded to the next stage which was a psychometric assessment.
I am sharing this as a guide to approaching such interview questions, both to newbies and specialists in Linux Administration, IT Infrastructure Management, Site Reliability Engineers, and DevOps Engineers. Some concepts and methodologies highlighted here may be new to some readers, however, they were meticulously expounded to ensure a comprehensive understanding. I left nothing to chance, recognizing that I lacked control over the recruiter’s level of comprehension. However, I do have authority over my pen and craftsmanship.
